John Stephen Veitch | | Social Networks
If you are like most people, not 100% comfortable on the Internet, here is the quick version of getting started on Ryze. "First Steps on Ryze"
Ryze has now opened your Guestbook by default, a long overdue change. If as a result you get MLM spam, email Ryze Support immediately.
Join LOTS of networks. That's how people get to find you.
Don't make your page "PRIVATE" unless there's nothing on it yet. If you want people to see your page is should be "PUBLIC".
If you are fairly new to Ryze, there is a longer essay on Joining a Social Network like Ryze or Xing particularly focused on Ryze, that readers tell me is very helpful.
There is an essay to help people who are beyond the beginner stage make the best use of Free Access On Ryze in the Step By Step Blog.
Finally there is a long essay to help people who are Gold or Platinum Members of Ryze.

John Stephen Veitch | | Hello Tim
On Ryze and several other networks it's assumed that if you know the email address of someone, you might "know them".
On Ryze one of the neglected ways to indicate to someone that you've visited their homepage, that you've read and approved of a post they have written, or that you appreciate what they are saying, is to check the email link in the permissions box on that person's Ryze Homepage.
That's much more useful than clicking on the pretty useless "network with me button".
When you visit the homepage of someone who's done that for you, that's a fairly clear indication that a friend request will be accepted. Copy the email address, open the tag "Add as a Friend", enter the email address in the box provided, and send off the invitation.
Thanks for asking the question Tim.

Eileen Brown | | Hi Tim!
The "invite a friend" link is located in the left side navigation pane under "Grow Your Network" at the bottom of the listings there. It should appear on every page you view at Ryze.
When you use it you will need to know the email of the person you are inviting, just as John has mentioned. I often just send my email addy in a PM as some folks don't realize where they can view my email address if I release it to them. A lot of the small details are lost to newbies and they just don't know where to look.

Oct 30, 2009 1:13 am | | re: re: Hints for Success on Ryze - Searchable Database | # |
Ken Hilving | | For Web sites, we think SEO. On resumes, we talk about keywords. When we join networks, we want to both find and be found. The basic concept in all of these are the same.
Like most networks, Ryze members are entered into a searchable database. Each member is a unique record. The searchable fields are found in the Advanced Find People window, and we fill in our own data using our Edit Profile.
FirstName LastName - These fields let people who know or know of you to find you. Those of us who are known by nicknames, or by middle names, need to make sure the name in our profile is the name we are known by if we want to be found.
Company - For resellers with their own company, the names of the manufacturers and service providers you represent might be a better choice for this field. You can clarify the relationship in your home page text.
Title - Titles can be a source of prestige for many of us, but if our title here does not match the common title for similar positions then we won't be found.
City - A metropolitan area might be a better choice than actual hometown if we want potential customers, partners, or providers to find us on a search.
State - Consider commas between states if you want to connect based on several states.
University - This is usually where alma mater connections are found.
Country - While the multiple state concept might seem to apply, honesty in national location carries more weight.
Industries - Once again, it is about where others would look for what you offer. Put yourself in the searcher' mind when choosing industries.
Interests - Too often we focus on ourselves here rather than on the common ground to connect with others. This is the best field for helping others stumble across you while searching. There is plenty of opportunity to focus on yourself in your home page content. Private Reply to Ken Hilving |

Lamar Morgan 954-603-7901 | | I think it is important to realize that not everything you do with regarding to business networking with Ryze has to be with Ryze, exclusively. You can incorporate other tools both with and without Ryze.
For example, if you are posting a Ryze Event, please do not hesitate to make use of both a Squidoo.com lens and an Evite.com invitation link in the process.
Many Ryzers are also fans of Twitter.com. Therefore, a Twitter account would be a good thing for you to have as well. Of course, if you go to the trouble to get a Twitter account, you might as well also have a Facebook.com and Foursquare.com account - since all three work together with each other.
If you get a Foursquare accoutn, you might as well add me to your "list of Foursquare friends" and many of my Foursquare friends right along with me. Quite a few at the bottom of my list you may recognize as popular Ryzers.
The bottom line to all this business networking is not to "go it alone." Allow other folks to help you succeed. Many will...if you take the time to ask and have a design in mind that will also help them. Indeed, think "better together."
