Hello Everyone

I've made a commitment to successfully mentor 10 people between now and December.

I'm now asking for FOUR people who would like to start now. PM me, and Join Online Groups. First four get the prize. My expertise in on Ryze. LinkedIn, Xing and the French Network Viadeo. I've also maintained two blogs for quite a while.

Other Mentors:
If you've decided to give this a go register at Online Groups, and use this thread to invite volunteers. When I see that, I'll create a private group for you and put you in the group snnmentors as well.

Hi John.

I have been wondering why we are asked to register offsite
to be a mentor for Ryze?

I'd think that this group would be the place for that...

Hello Eileen

Starting groups on Ryze costs money. On Online Groups I can have as many groups as I like for almost nothing.

Besides there is a web site and RSS available for each group.

SO we can run the Social Networking Newbies forum there rather than use Ryze, and it can happen seamlessly, but you need to be a member at Online groups.

Your other question was about how do you register. If you tried to log in, the system would tell you that you are a visitor and that you should register. I think at the bottom of that page there is a statement about what Visitors can do.
One of those things is to Register as a Member.

I now have two people who have asked for mentoring and there are two places left with me at the current time.

There are several other highly experienced people who I expect want to invite mentees. Please use this thread to do so. Just announce the fact that you are available.

I'm happy to make a private network available to mentors on Online Groups, but if you don't want to work that way, that's your business.

As for new members here, I really do recommend that you find an experienced person here who's style you like. Ask them for some private help. You'll learn more in 2-3 weeks with help, than you will in several months of pottering about on Ryze.

I believe EVERY new member of Ryze needs that help. The problem is that we don't have enough mentors to do that.

Hello Everyone,

I think I have my four requests for FREE Social Networking Mentoring. If that 4th person confirms, for about a month I probably can't do any more.

I'm hugely impressed by the quality of the people who've asked for help.
Firstly, they are not unskilled now, quite the opposite.
Secondly, they have experience and expertise that they bring to the discussion. The four in my little group have much to teach each other, and much to teach me.
Thirdly, the energy they have demonstrated already, tells me that in a few weeks we will accomplish a good deal.

I'm excited about what we are starting here.

Mentors

We need new mentors to volunteer HERE.

I suggest that you simply announce in this thread that you are available, and how many people you want to deal with.

I can offer a private group for each mentor at Online Groups, but two senior members here have told me that they prefer not to use yet another tool. That's OK, certainly for now. It might create some problems later, but my fears may also be groundless. So for now let's just move forward one step at a time.

I'd like to run a private group for mentors only on Online Groups. If this process takes off, as I hope it will, we should talk about what a good mentor should do. We should seek to establish some standards that Ryze would be proud to own, and that we ourselves are proud to stand by.

Mentees

As for people who might be able to benefit from mentoring. There is already a lesson in who the early mentees are. Not someone who is confused and isolated. The mentees are people who are successful already. They got there because in the past they were willing to ask for help. Perhaps I should say they had the confidence to ask for help. People who have a strong idea, and will do whatever needs to get done to achieve that.

There is already a lot of help here, in the Sticky Messages of this network, in resources Team Mom, Reg, Eileen and myself have made available on the web, in blogs and elsewhere of Ryze. 100's of pages of stuff actually. Using one of the senior members of this group as a mentor, will help you to find the stuff you need when you need it. You can't do everything at once.

By all means explore by wandering around, but the fastest way forward is to work in a tiny group, with someone who has a lot of experience. (There are at least 12, and maybe 20 people with a lot of experience here.)
