I've taken the time to visit over 100 pages for new Ryze members in the last week. It's surprising to me that fewer than 10% of new members were invited to join Ryze by a friend. This means that +90% of new members enter Ryze with no friends and as members of no groups. They are in a black hole.

The rules of Ryze say you can communicate with people who share a network with you, and with friends and with the friends of friends.

So for most newbies that means Zero plus Zero. The black hole.

Release from "the black hole" is simple. Join some networks. But how do newbies understand that? So many are in zero networks, or one network which is almost as bad.

The Ryze RULE, that people can connect to people who are members of the same network is a FREE PASS, to people who are not paying Ryze members. Sadly it's a free pass that isn't understood and is seldom used.

The other little tip people need to learn, is to make their email address available to people they have met on Ryze who they "know". This is a much better "network with me signal" than the silly Network with me button. To do this, check the email box on the Ryze Homepage of the person concerned, and "update permissions". It's a simple thing to do but hardly anybody does it.

Once email addresses are shared, it's easy to make "friends" on Ryze. That's the other, much harder route, out of the "black hole".

Please. Make the effort to visit the pages of NEW Ryze members, and direct them to this post. If you come across Ryze Members who are not active, the reason is almost certainly not joining enough networks. Invite them to read this post too.

I did some research on Ryze 4 years ago. People who joined more than 20 networks usually thrived on Ryze. They had lots of homepage visits and active guestbooks. Those who joined fewer than 10 networks were usually completely inactive within a few months.

Would it help if Gold members made a point of welcoming new members?

Hi John and Denis.

I regularly welcome newbie's but in spurts. I'll do it for
a week then, because of time restraints, have to back off.

One thing I have done in the past too, is look for those
who were interested enough when joining to upload a picture
and fill in the blanks. Many of those leave the big page
part blank but that's normal for newbies too.

Sometimes I get warned off of posting to guest books as
Ryze thinks I'm spamming! I wish there was a way to
aleviate that error. I'd think if you were gold or
platinum they'd trust you more, eh? LOL

On welcoming Newbies...

The Ryze SPAM notice says:

"This is a reminder that sending the same message (via guest book or private message) to lots of people you don't know is considered spamming on Ryze.

This includes 'welcome messages' to new members.

Ryze gives you a huge opportunity to be thoughtful in interacting with new people, helping them out and building your network. Please use some thought and don't spam people with the same message. Spammers can get their Ryze posting privileges put on hold for extended periods of time."

Have you ever gotten the you are spamming page thing?

I just hate that!

T.E.A.M. Mom!
Hi Eileen, yes, a few times over the years here and I have voiced my concerns both privately via email and over on the ryze support/leaders networks. I think that it is just to vague of a rule and that there could be some sort of change to this.

Being a GOLD member most of my years (with 10 months platinum) I found that alot of newbies would drop by, check me out, 99% would not say anything, so in turn I would drop back by to them with a quick hello. I also learned to just offer a quick note in the GB welcome if they need any help getting about, etc, drop me a PM.

By doing so, you can open the door of communication and leave it up to them if they would like further information, help, advice, etc. For almost 2 years now, I have been a bd mod for the WBO and one of my duties is to welcome all new members. To keep myself from being flagged, I just switch up my welcome to each gal and offer advice to those who may have asked prior.

Last year, while welcoming newbies to WBO, I had mentioned, just mentioned the WBO site, no links, nothing and I was given a warning that I was spamming! That just made me scratch my head and of course, write support but again. I ex that my role was to welcome all these new members to the network, invite them to share an intro and offer help thru the WBO site. I never heard back on it, so I just stopped doing it (mentioning the site).

Thanks for sharing this, I am sure anyone who joins and comes across these threads will gain some important and much need insight to the inner workings of ryze. Been awhile since we had a good meaty network to lean upon with all areas of networking, hope it will stay awhile and continue to grow.

Enjoy your day, Patricia

Hi John

I was in Ryze in 1994 and left because I found it difficult to Network.

I am here now and I notes that all the networks I had, are not active any more.

Yes Jose,

Networks change, people change, we grow and develop.
People don't usually appreciate how they, themselves, are changing. Each person imagines that they have stayed the same. Fortunately that is seldom the case. If it was the case it would be a great disaster for that individual.

The secret of life to to continually adapt the the environment in which you live. If you kept a journal for a few years you would be able to see how YOU have changed.

Ryze changes too. Network Leaders come and go. They change and their business interests change. You've been inactive for some time Jose. Start again.

I think it is sometimes necessary to point out the obvious - because the obvious is often overlooked when it comes to business networking via Ryze. Whether you meet folks on Ryze, LinkedIn, MerchantCircle, Facebook or Twitter, there is no hard-and-fast rule that says you must do all your networking through the forum where you first met. Just because you meet someone on Ryze does not mean you cannot follow-up via regular email or even Skype. In fact, I think it is better if you CONNECT as directly as possible in a one-to-one relationship. I don't think the phone call will ever go out-of-style. I don't think the face-to-face meeting will ever go out-of-style, either.

The magic you need to happen happens when you CONNECT CARING PEOPLE. That's where the rubber meets the road, folks. Thanks to today's technology, those CARING PEOPLE no longer have to be physical next-door neighbors. They can be at opposite ends of the Earth.

Statistics tell us that today more people on this planet use cell phones than use computers. In fact, the ratio is 3:1 in favor of the cell phone. Mobile communication is transforming the way The Internet can be utilized. If you are not even familiar with "social location gaming," I encourage you to get acquainted with Foursquare, Gowalla and Booyah. These services are demonstrating how the collective intellignece of a community can actually energize itself and have fun in the process. It is truly amazing. Rather than watch it happen from the sidelines, why not engage in the process and repeat some benefits for your business?
