Clark Gets UN Job

Press Release: Trans Tasman Political Letter

The Trans-Tasman Political Letter reports Helen Clark, NZ's Prime Minister from 1999 to 2008, is to be named as head of the United Nations Development Programme.

This is the highest international post held by a NZer since a former Prime Minister Mike Moore held the post of Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.

Highly placed sources have told Trans-Tasman the UN Secretary-General Ban Ky-Moon is confirming the appointment within the next few hours.

The NZ Govt strongly supported Clark's nomination for the job, and John Key lobbied other leaders as well as insisting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade did everything within its means to carry the message of support in its chain of diplomatic missions abroad.

Earlier, Clark gained a place on the shortlist of three but then major donors to the UNDP threw their support behind her.

Clark's credentials include not only her experience as Prime Minister but her leadership on many international issues and the recognition of her role in the evolution of NZ's anti-nuclear policy.

It is expected she will take up the post later this year. Her departure will signal the need for a by-election in the Mt Albert electorate which she has held since 1981.

(This is not confirmed by the UN yet. )

Terrence O'Brien tells us on the Radio New Zealand this morning, that the people usually appointed to this position are usually American of British and are usually development economists or bankers. The appointment of a politician from a small country will be a departure from the normal appointment process.

While numerous incidents over the last decade have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the United Nations is a toothless tiger that has literally existed long beyond it's "use by date", Helen's appointment there shows that the UN has become a repository for individuals that have little or no commercial accumen, and a final resting place for those individuals that are incapable of really fulfilling any real useful function in society.

In many ways the UN is like most of our local Councils, except those seeking positions in the UN have no qualms about wanting recognition on a global basis for being absolutely useless, rather than being embarrased about it.

New Zealand has little or nothing to be proud of having her in the UN, in fact it brings global attention to a country that should hang it's head in shame for having allowed her such an extended period of personal experimentation, unrestrained biase and pseudo political correctness. And for any organisation to see fit to pay someone $500,000 a year when their CV reads 9 years of failure attempting to run a country as though it were her personal fiefdom, only confirms that the UN agenda is highly suspect and ineffective.

I close pondering the question....how on earth does an international organisation that has permitted the massacres in Sebrinica and Gazza to continue, fit with a person whose sole motivation is to single-handedly destroy the strength and value of the family unit. If anyone can enlighten me I would greatly appreciate it!

Hello Nicholas

I for one, don't agree about your negative assessment of Helen Clark as a leader. Nor do I consider the topic worthy of debate.

The UN, on the other hand might be an issue worth a letter or two. For that purpose I have started another thread.

Hello John,

Of course while we are all entitled to our own opinions, it is a shame that no-one else has contributed or commented.

I believe that it might be because many other Kiwi's are completely fed up with that person's name in their lives.

On a more positive note I would like to see a thread comparing what John Key has been able to accomplish in 90 days as opposed to what HC and her Labour cronies accomplished in 9 years.

Regards

Nick

This is your forum too Nicholas.

By all means start a new thread about the achievements of John Key and his new government. I'd be the first to agree that they have done very well.
