Hello Jeff

I was hoping someone like Lamar would have stepped in here. I'm not by any means a Twitter expert, but social networking in general I do have a deep understanding about.

You have TWO Twitter accounts because on Twitter you have two different purposes. I think this separation of business and personal makes sense.

The same thing applies to your followers on Twitter. They CHOOSE to follow you, or to follow your business ID. They have their own reasons to do that. Why should you be able to "move them" at all? That decision is not yours to make.

Of course you can occasionally do a tweet in either of your accounts referring to what you are saying in the other account. Some people might follow that Tweet and then choose to follow that thread more directly.

Personally I think to power of Twitter is to choose who you follow carefully. And to Tweet seldom and with purpose. That's entirely the opposite strategy, to what many people do.

Hi Jeff.

I don't know how to do that either. I have only one
account at twitter and probably won't separate out business
and personal for the simple reason that if folks get to
know ME, they may be interested in my services.

Web 2.0 is all about being SOCIAL, joining in with a group
or groups of people and finding those who think like you to
merge with, become friends with, AND do business with.

I see the need to separate the two for many people but for
myself, I'll keep one account until it's full, or whatever.

I've gained some clients from twitter and so if what I'm
doing is working, I'll not change it just to do what others
are doing.

I don't use any automation add-ons except tweetdeck to help
me keep track of all the incoming tweets.

Hi Jeff, Everyone,
Just thought I would jump in and try to add to this thread the best way I can... As for seperating the two, I agree with Eileen that it can be a benefit for those following or wanting to follow you, to see who you are as a person and how it reflects with your brand/image. The same can be said here on ryze. There has much divided debate in many networks, thru the years on what is and should be on a persons ryze homepage and whether it should be for business, personal or both. I leave that up to each person to decide what they feel would benefit them as a whole.

My reason for Twitter is 2 fold: find information that I can use for my blogs, my network, etc and to share the wealth of information I have researched, used and of course RT those who I feel can add to the mix. Initially, I was going to have 2 seperate accounts, one that would focus soley on business (anything related) and one that would focus on parenting/family, etc, but decided to keep them together under TeamMom. So far, it has been a huge success, opened up doors for great opportunities for me (personal/professional) and helped me only further brand myself under my TeamMom name. How I choose to go with it from here on in, is the decision I need to make.

Here are some links that may help or at least guide you to the right area in re to combining the 2 account. I tweet/RT on anything per to Business/Blogging/WebDesign/Marketing/Etc & Family/Parenting/Education/More and diligently remove anyone that tries to spam, solicit spam or send me derogatory/violent/explicit info. It takes time, to find your niche there, how, what, when to tweet, who to follow, etc, but, if you do your homework and review over the FAQ's, Guidelines/Rules, you will be fine.

Success to you always!

Jeff,

Here's my take on your situation. I have two accounts as well. The idea of moving people from my personal account to a second account is not even on my radar screen. It just happens. They do it themselves. Why? Because these folks understand what Twitter is all about and desire to take their benefits. It's not so much what is in my best interest that matters to them. It is what is in their best interest that matters to them. They just decided to include me in that mix.

Twitter is no more about sales than business networking is about sales. But, it certainly can be used to enhance sales. Rather than sales being a purpose for Twitter, it has been an outgrowth of the benefits of being proactive in the social media space. Both Twitter and business networking in general are about building relationships with other people. To paraphrase former President Bill Clinton, "It's the relationship, stupid."

For that reason, you may see things happening on Twitter tweets that seem a little odd at first glance, but it really is not. For example, many folks say "Good night" on Twitter. Why? Because they are building a relationship with an unseen audience...in much the same way someone on TV or radio says "Good night." Then, there is the retweeting of someone else's message. Why would someone bother to do that? Answer - because it makes both them good and someone else look good. It's a win/win arrangement. For that reason, it makes good sense to follow people you believe can enhance your own value and lift them up with an occasional retweet. It's a smart business networking strategy and it is extremely easy to implement - especially when you use TweetDeck on your desktop.

I also prefer to use just one Twitter account. I have noticed a few people that use two face book accounts, two my space accounts and yes two Twitter accounts. THat is where my question originated

I would have to agree that if you do have two accounts a natural migration would occure as people get to know you. While building that relationship they will figure out you have information on other accounts.

Thank you for the input..I'll stick to my single accounts for now. Can't keep up with everything as it is anyway.

Stay Focused!

You know Lamar I never saw the "Good Night" or Tweets of this nature in quiet that light, thank you so much for opening my judgments to those who do this. It is yet another wonderful form of networking on a more socialable level, that obviously I have lost sight of.

Sometimes, I do admit, I find those sort of tweets a bother, usually scrolling by them in haste, but than other times I think, "Hey that is nice to have someone think of us all and wish us good tidings or goodnight." Having your thoughts and perspective seen this way is really a good insight of how simple things can be overlooked.

Yes I have had some say to me on Twitter (as they have done here on ryze), you are too professional, mix it up OR you are too focused, why not post this or that. Well, because I chose to use twitter for the 2 fold purpose I have shared earlier: to find information and to share it. Along the way, as I become more cofortable with my surroundings (as I did her on ryze), I will possibly mix it up.

That is why they have the DM button to further connect, in private, networking step by step, to see, sift, feel out those who you contact and vice versa. Similiar to what we do her on ryze with the PM. It is the only real way you can truly get to know someone, everyone puts on a face when they are online, to some degree, just need to be careful on which one you wear.

Have a great day everyone and thanks again Lamar for this. Patricia

Patricia,

I used to think Twitter was the most ridiculous idea there ever was. What a stupid question to be asking adults to answer - "What are you doing now?" Then, to add insult to injury, demand that folks limit their response to 140 characters. How stupid can you be? Well, the answer to that question is "Pretty stupid." Why? Because I had no idea of the dynamics at work. I had no idea of all the third-party developers who supported this Twitter API with amazing products to help expand and deliver MY MESSAGE.

What services like Twitter, Facebook and Squidoo are doing is bring people together and intertwining them into a dynamic fabric of communication. And, many people are discovering cost-effective ways to strengthen a cause or even build a business utilizing this cost-effective fabric of communication. It really is amazing.

Now there are hardware products coming out on the market that are specifically designed enhance one's presence in that "social media space." Two that readily come to mind are "E" and "Poken." Both products focus on the instant exchange of contact information when you meet face-to-face. But, Poken also provides for a means your business to other though the use of its product. I find that to be irresistible. For that reason, I went and purchased two Pokens myself just so I could physically demonstrate how the product works to other folks.
