This table is about 40 NEW members of Ryze. They have been members from between 5 days and about 35 days. Most of those in the bottom quartile have been here less than 10 days.

The order of the listing is based on Ryze homepage hits. Of 40 members. 2 stand out already. Based on my knowledge of what happens on Ryze that's normal. 5% of members are very successful. One of my purposes in starting this network is to show everyone that what those people DO, isn't magical, it's simple stuff every one of you CAN DO. Success on Ryze is easy if you DO some simple things.

Have/Want: Only 11 people have filled in this section of the page. It is a simple place for people to identify what's important to you.

Ryze Page Text: Counting lines of text is a fairly silly measure. What I'm looking for is "made an effort" v "hasn't tried yet". The disappointing thing is that only 12 people have made that effort. In the next FIVE DAYS I want to change that.

Networks Joined: I've been stressing the need to join many networks. That's working, and people are joining more networks, but still not enough. Even after 2-3 weeks you can already see the people who are in more networks rising faster.

Guest Book Entries: This is a measure mostly of your own activity, visiting networks, going on to visit the Ryze pages of the people you meet there. Leaving Guest Book Entries of your own. Guest Book activity eventually allows you to build your friends list.

Friends: Notice that very few people have any friends. If you recognise someone as a potential friend, use the permissions box on their homepage and send them an "I recognise you as a member" message by checking the email box. (Save permissions) Next time that person visits your Ryze page, your email address will be available. They may choose to invite you to be "a friend". You've already signalled that you'll probably accept.

Here's the data. I hope you can learn from it.

My original research on Ryze is five years old.
It's a sad story, that could so easily be different, if only people understood what to do. But they don't and so they "DO NOTHING". The result of that is inevitable.

Social Networking Newbies is attempting to change that experience, so new Ryze members really do enter an environment that enables then to achieve things.

You become what you DO. What You DO.
This network is full of stuff you should be doing.

What we are telling you is based on research, and knowledge. Here is more recent research in June 2009.
These are the people who are online. Age and Sex

This is about the email people write.
http://www.ate.co.nz/emailout.html

This is how they are regarding social networks.
http://www.ate.co.nz/socialnetworks2.html

So the world even in New Zealand and the USA is still 80+ newbies when it comes to being online. Even though 80% of the people I interviewed would claim to be very comfortable about being online. The facts of their actual use of the Internet don't support what they say about themselves.
